Mir:ror by Violet
Posted in Technology Thursday on 07/23/2009 03:52 pm by loriSo the Husband had his bday yesterday and told me he wanted to get this with his bday money. Don’t ask me anything about it though because I’m totally confused. All I know is that it’s a mirror that controls objects. Here’s what the site says about it:
Mir:ror by Violet is the first consumer home RFID-reader *
It connects to the PC (Windows, Mac or Linux) via USB and launches all kinds of multimedia applications when detecting an object equipped with an RFID-tag.Intuitive and easy-to-use with completely customizable functionalities, this reader reveals the life, power and memory of any of our everyday objects.
It is hence possible to associate any kind of multimedia content or interactive application to any kind of objects, to make a brick sing a song, to store ones personal photos on a pen, to make a phone call by showing a portrait
Everyday objects are now becoming interactive, connected, content-rich with ever increasing remotely controlled services. And the icing on the cake: these once inert now living and communicative objects just speak up within their contextual use.
The Mir:ror Pack contains one Mir:ror, one Mirror:skin, 3 blank Ztamp:s and 2 Nano:ztags. It will be available as of late October from retailers who already distribute Nabaztag as well as through www.violet.net
Here’s a video:
And here’s where you can buy some of the products.
Sad News
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 05/06/2009 01:00 am by loriAs a matter of privacy for the family, I will not say any names of people or places, but I wanted to share a tragic story in hopes that many prayers will go up.
A girl that graduated with us was killed last Thursday night. My family knew her family well, as we lived in the same small town with their family for 9 years. Her funeral was yesterday.
Her husband, who I had a few classes with, had originally told police she was missing after not coming home from a jog. The next day, he confessed to accidentally shooting her in the head and then led police to her body. He has been charged with 2nd degree murder and was released on bond to stay with his parents.
I don’t know the details of the murder, and I guess no one will ever truly know except for him and the Lord, but I’m hoping that no lies come out of this. I realized that he has the same lawyer that Mary Winkler (another wife of a family friend who was killed ) had. She got off with a slap on the wrist for murder, only spending 5 months in jail. And again, only Mary knows how her husband treated her, but based on what Matthew’s Aunt has told us of their marriage, I believe that her lawyer sure knew how to make up some crazy stuff to get her off. So, I’m afraid that might happen in this case.
So, I just ask you to pray for truth, forgiveness, peace, understanding, and love for all of those involved.
Towell News
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 04/01/2009 04:51 pm by loriJonathan and I thought we would go ahead and announce our good news to the internet. We’ve been keeping this secret for about 16 weeks now; I’m proud of us for holding the news back for so long. I didn’t think we could do it. Anyway . . .
Abigail is going to be a big sister!!!! And she won’t just have one younger sibling. She is going to have two.
We’re pregnant with twins: a boy and a girl! My grandma is a twin, and I think there are two other sets of twins on her side of the family. My cousins and I have always wondered who would be the first to have twins. I guess, I’m the one.
I’m not sure how to feel. I’m a little lot nervous because I’m already having a challenging time taking care of just Abigail. And in about 20 weeks, we will have to take care of THREE babies. Wow.
We had our first ultrasound on Monday, and we saw our future son and daughter; they’re spitting images of Jonathan and me. Aren’t they gorgeous?!
Interesting News
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 02/25/2009 12:05 pm by loriLast night, Jonathan and I were talking about the day Abigail was born. We don’t ever want to forget the sounds, sights, smells, and emotions we felt on that day. We’ve been thinking about it lately because she’ll be one year old in 10 days! Wow.
Anyway, it made me remember a story I read about a special birthday present a 6 year old boy received. On his birthday, he opened a 4 ft package, and inside was his dad on leave from his second tour in Iraq.
Speaking of someone hidden inside a box . . . In Germany, a drug dealer escaped from jail by mailing himself in a cardboard box. The box was about 4×5 ft. He was picked up by an express courier, and after he was loaded onto the lorry, he cut “a big hole in the tarpaulin of the lorry and jump[ed] off.” The driver alerted police after he noticed the tarpaulin flapping in the wind.
In other news, a former plastic surgeon had been fueling his cars with the human fat that was sucked from his patients. This is illegal, at least in California, “because state law forbids the use of human medical waste to power vehicles.” Huh, ya think!?
Another story is about a man who stole a camera from a woman who has inoperable cancer. He had a change of heart when he saw the woman’s appeal to return the camera on the news. She had been taking photos to put in a scrapbook for her kids so they could remember her after she passed away. A few days after the story aired, the woman received a call from the man, saying he wanted to return the camera.
Toilet Underwear
Posted in Technology Thursday on 01/22/2009 04:47 pm by loriThis is one of the stranger items of technology I will post. It’s toilet underwear! The Japanese say their space toilet will be ready within the next five years.
It’s “clean and easy to use;” astronauts are supposed to wear the toilet like a diaper around their waists all of the times.
“Sensors detect when the user relieves him or herself, automatically activating a rear-mounted suction unit that draws the waste away from the body through tubes into a separate container. In addition to washing and drying the wearer after each use, the next-generation space toilet will incorporate features that eliminate unwanted sound and odor.”
Awesome. Check this website out to see a prototype picture and read more info.
Crazy Houses
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 12/31/2008 05:28 pm by loriI’ve seen some funny looking houses in my day, but I’ve never seen any quite as cool, crazy, or exotic as these homes here. This is a picture of one of the 15 houses you’ll see on the list.
70 Year Old Woman Gives Birth
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 12/17/2008 01:00 am by loriCan you imagine becoming a parent when you’re in your seventies? And this wasn’t even by adoption! A 70 year old lady gave birth for the first time!
Insane. I have a hard time having the energy to take care of my baby, and I’m only 24 (soon to be 25– in less than a week, ahem)! Also, when you think about it, this poor child’s parents will probably be dead before she graduates high school.
Sad, Funny, & Touching News Articles
Posted in Whatever Wednesday on 11/05/2008 12:39 pm by loriHow sad is this story. Quick summary: At a gun fair, a child accidentally shoots and kills himself with an Uzi as his father looks on. What makes a father think it’s okay for his 8-year-old son to shoot a fully loaded automatic weapon?!
This story makes me laugh. How could someone ever get their arm stuck in a toilet?
And this story brought a tear to my eye. A 6-year-old girl with brain damage had never been able to communicate with her parents. Now, she has a Smartbox machine and is able to “say” she loves her parents for the first time.
