Just doing a quick note for my sweet baby: You turned TWO YEARS old today. I can’t believe it! You’re our greatest joy. We love you sooooo much. I’ll do another post with pictures and memories of the event. You were great!

Update and a Sneak Peek at Abigail’s Big Girl Room

Sorry about neglecting the site . . . again. Things have just been so crazy around here with still being pregnant sick, having appointments, getting Abigail’s big girl room ready, new baby planning, moving furniture, organizing, and prepping for Abigail’s birthday, along with the usual housewife stuff I need to do.

Our house looks pretty rough right now– as far as clutter and organization. I’m typing from in the DINING room. We used to have an office, but now, that’s turning into Abigail’s big girl room. As I look around the dining room, there are SIX tables/desks in here: the kitchen table, my computer desk, Jonathan’s computer desk, my sewing machine desk, Abi’s play table, and the new baby’s changing table. Wow.

Over the weekend, Jonathan and I cleaned out the office/guest room/storage closet. Then he tore out an intercom and patched it up with drywall, primed the room, and painted the baseboards. Then, we tediously measured and taped off one wall. Thank goodness my measurements I had done earlier in February were accurate!

Then, I took Abigail over to my parents to take a nap so Abigail and Baby wouldn’t be around all the fumes and noise. Earlier that week, our friends offered to come help Jonathan paint the room. Yea for good friends.

And here’s what the other walls look like:

Definitely very pink. Oh well, Abigail loves it. So, we just have to replace the outlets and switches and covers, get new carpet, insulate the windows, figure out what I’m gonna do for window treatments (any ideas, when the windows are narrow and don’t touch the ground?), move in her furniture, and it’s all hers.

If I get any comments/emails about the block wall, I’ll try to do a tutorial of how to make it happen . . . but not this week. I’m getting my braces off (!), buying stuff for Abigail’s party, making the cake and dip and drinks, etc, and working on Abigail’s video of year 1-2. I can’t believe she’ll be TWO on Sunday.

**Oh, and by the way, since our Vday project, here’s what I had to do for Jonathan: 1) Write and perform a rap song about Jonathan, 2) Watch a Sci-Fi movie of his choosing (YUCK!). Here’s what he drew for me to do: 1) Bring Lori a blizzard, 2) Play wii with Lori. Now, who do you think got it rough?!

Our Vday Project for the Year

I was going to write about this prior to Vday to give y’all a free gift idea, but I didn’t want to spoil the surprise to Jonathan. Sorry, I guess I love him more.

Anyway, here’s a gift you can do at any time, not just Vday:

I covered some canisters with paper and stickers.

Here are the rules:

His & Hers Requests

-Write 46 things (since there are 46 weeks left in the year) that we want the other spouse to do with us or with us.

-Put those sheets of paper in your canister, and then we will swap canisters.

-On Sundays, we will each pull a strip of paper out of each other’s jar, and we’ll have to do whatever the spouse asked for.
-We will have the whole week to do the request.

-We will put the papers (with the writing hidden) on our bathroom mirror as a reminder.

On Sunday, Jonathan and I each drew one strip of paper (his were blue; mine were pink).

I don’t know what he’ll be doing for me or when, but I’m pretty nervous about what I’m supposed to do for him. I’ll update you after I do his request.

I got this idea from an article I read, and I was happy that Jonathan was super excited about this project. Yea for a good, free gift! This way, we can work on showing love in the ways we want to receive it.

Our Babymoon Weekend

Jonathan and I were blessed to have a Babymoon weekend. After Jonathan got home from work on Friday, we took Miss Abi to my parents’ house. They were kind enough to watch her all day/night from Friday until Sunday church. That was the longest time I’ve been away from her.

Instead of traveling 4 hours to my parents’ condo in the mountains, which was covered with snow, we decided to stay at our house. Here were our rules: no cell phones (except to say goodnight to Abigail), no computer usage (except to watch hulu shows together), and we said we’d be able to spend the amount we would’ve spent on gasoline ($100) on going out to eat and doing other fun things.

So, Friday night, we ate at Carino’s. This has been an eventful place for us. It’s where we had our first date, where I told Jonathan we were pregnant with Baby #2, and the place from where I ended up getting really sick the last two times I’ve eaten there (my Birthday in December and Babymoon weekend). So, I will not be partaking in their food for the next several months– if ever again. Ugh. I’m 31 weeks; when will the vomiting end?! Anyway, after that, we rented a movie, and I explained the rules to our Valentine’s project for the year (instructions and pictures here).

On Saturday, Jonathan made me breakfast in bed: Butterscotch and White Chocolate chip pancakes! Yum. Then, we relaxed around the house until noon when we went out to eat at Taco Bueno. After that, we looked at the Dollar Store to get Abigail some Vday gifts, then I got a pedicure and manicure while Jonathan got his hair cut next door. Later, we ate dinner at Garcia’s and had the best waiter ever! We came home and watched shows on Hulu.

On Sunday, we saw our sweet girl at church. Daddy got a homemade card from Abigail, I got a red rose and sweet card from Jonathan, and Abigail got some flash cards, two books, and Reeses’ Pieces. Later that night, we made a fruit dip and ate strawberries (recipe to come later). Apparently, Abigail adores strawberries now.

Anyway, in case you didn’t know, I have the best husband for me. I’m so glad we were blessed to spend our 8th V-day together.

Snowy Day Again

I’m thinking of starting a page on the blog of cute/funny things that Abigail has said. I want to remember them, and with this pregnancy brain, that’s getting hard to do.

So, I’ll just leave you with a funny conversation Abigail had with our dog Sabra this morning.

Abi: Sissah, go potty. Hurry up, Sissah. Come in near. Do you see the snow? It’s white.

[I call Sabra inside from the snow.]

Abi: Sissah has snow on her hair. You wanna clean it?

Me: No, it’s okay, it’ll just melt.

Abi: But Sissah’s wet. Sissah, you want me dry you? [She opens the hutch door to get out a kitchen hand towel.]

Me: It’s okay; the wet will go away. Thank you, though.

Abi: Okay. It’s okay, Sissah. It’s alright. Snow will go away.

Later on, I saw a boogie in Abigail’s nose, so I asked her if she wanted to blow her nose.

Abi: Noooo, Abi keep the booger in the nose.

You have started saying things that we have said (only days after we first said it) like: When you were feeding Sabra her dog food, you said, “It’s good to share, Momma.” And when you were playing with something I told you days before that you shouldn’t play with, you said, “It’s dangerous for little girls.”
Lately, you’ve been taking 1+ hour(s) to fall asleep some nights. You just lie in bed talking and talking and talking. Another Sonogram

Well we had another sonogram a couple of days ago. Here are some things we learned:

Baby is no longer breech.
My placenta is no longer low-lying.
Baby is measuring 13 days ahead of schedule. [At the last ultrasound, Baby was 4 days ahead.]
They estimated Baby to weigh 3.5 lbs already.
Baby’s heartbeat was 147.
I have another sonogram scheduled in late March.

How to Make a: Crinkle Square Mini Blanket with Taggies

Here’s the tutorial for how to make a crinkle square mini blanket with taggies like the one below for a baby. It’s super easy, quick, and doesn’t cost much. If you don’t have ribbon on hand, that might be your biggest expense.

Supplies

thread
2 squares of flannel (I used 9×9 inches)
ribbons cut to about 4 inches long and folded in half (I used 4 big pieces, 4 medium pieces, and 4 skinny pieces)
crinkly sheet/package, the same size as your flannel (I used a wrapper from a sample diaper I got in the mail). Some other options: wipes package, microwave popcorn wrappers, chips bag, clear gift wrap . . . Just make sure that you cut your flannel pieces to whatever size your crinkle sheet ends up being

Directions

Put one piece of flannel right side up and pin ribbons along the edges with the cut sides off of the flannel. between the two pieces of material (wrong sides together).
Put the second flannel sheet on top of the ribbons right side down.
Put the crinkle sheet on top of the flannel and pin all layers together.
Sew along all the edges– except, make sure to leave a big enough section not sewn so that you can turn the blanket right side out. Take the pins out.
After sewing, turn the blanket right side out.
Then, sew all the way around the square, and you’re done!

Rough Day in Bullet Point Style

So I don’t want to make this long and drawn out, and I really don’t even want to write about it tonight because I wanna get in bed (but can’t cause I’m waiting on Jonathan to call to tell me he got to Seattle safely) . . . but I don’t want to write it tomorrow because I wanna be done with the bad feelings. Here are only some of the rough things that happened:

Didn’t hear my alarm or didn’t set it this morning, so I was running late for my sonogram appt. Went to get Abi at 9:10, and she was still asleep, so I had to wake her up, and she was fussy.
Had to call around to get a tow truck to take our car to a mechanic. Spent $50. Mechanic called and said, “Nothing’s wrong with your car; it started right up.” WHAT! $50 wasted and our car’s not fixed! I start crying cause our car has been breaking down off and on for the last 6 months. Jonathan goes into rescue mode (God bless him) and calls another mechanic and tries to troubleshoot over the phone.
Minutes later, we have to get Abi awake from her nap to take Jonathan to the airport. This is the 4th night I’ll be apart from him in almost 6 years of marriage and Abigail’s 1st night . He’ll be gone until late Wednesday night.
It took me about 40 minutes to get to my Dad’s office after I took Jonathan to the airport, due to our city’s construction. It should’ve only taken 10. Then, we had to drive to pick up our “working” car from the mechanic, drop it off at Dad’s house, go back to Dad’s work to get his truck, go to my house to pack up Abigail’s stuff, take her back to my parents’ house, drive back to my house to be there by 7:00 when I had plans with Tiffany. I spent 3 hours in the car. Came home to a house w/ hardly any food (we were supposed to go grocery shopping on Saturday, but we were busy all weekend working on the car and trying to find Jonathan some khakis for his business trip). Didn’t have time to grab something. Ate canned soup. All this on top of feeling crappy in pregnancy is zero fun.

Anyway, that’s a short recap of the rough day. Tomorrow, hopefully, I’ll have time to do a positive post about Baby and maybe get in a tutorial for Tipster Tuesday. We’ll see.

Rough Day

I had big plans today to squeeze in a post about the sonogram we had this morning. But instead, I’ve spent the last 15 minutes or so crying about our stupid car situation. Ugh. And Jonathan’s leaving town today for overnight business, which makes me extra bummed. Anyway, I’ve gotta get him to the airport soon and have several other things needing to be done today, so I might not be able to do a post about our day until tomorrow.

How to Make: Fabric Headbands

Back in November, we decided to grow my daughters hair out, but her hair kept getting in her eyes. Bows come in and out easily, so I decided I’d try to make her some headbands. You could make some for yourself, too, and your daughter might be extra excited about wearing headbands, just like Mommy.

Materials Needed:

material
an elastic hair band/ponytail holder without the metal
coordinating thread

Instructions

Measure around your toddler’s head to the nape of her neck.
Cut your material to the appropriate size and iron flat. [Cut a rectangle that is double the width of what you want your headband to end up, plus about 1/2 in for seam allowance and 3 inches less than measurement you got from step 1. I think I cut mine 3.5 x 15.5inches. If you want it to be reversible with two different patterns, cut accordingly.]
Measure in on the bottom ends in about 1/2 “ on each side and mark, draw a line up to the top corners and you will have a tapered rectangle.
Fold right sides together “hot dog style” and iron flat.
Then pin together and sew around, but leave a “U shape” opening in the bottom, as if you were sewing a pillow.
Turn tube of fabric inside out and iron flat. Also, fold a 1/4 inch or so on each end and iron down.
Put elastic pony tail on one end inside the flap created in step 6. Fold the 1/4 over the pony tail, and sew straight down.
Do the same with the other side.
And you’re all done.

I made the headband in the pictures and a pink one. I also made a reversible one: one side black and one side red. Abi loves them. Let me know if you have any questions.

How to: Make Foaming Hand Soap like Bath & Body Works

I love these soaps from Bath and Body Works. Not only do they smell great, but they’re soft on your hands, and it’s so much easier for Abi to wash her hands with the “bubble soap.”

I had even put them on my wish list for Christmas this year because we just ran out of the bottles in our kitchen and guest bathroom. Then, I discovered there might be a way to make the foaming soap with regular soap and save lots of money. Easy and super quick.

Ingredients

An empty bottle of Bath & Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand soap
Any liquid antibacterial soap (I used Bath & Body Works)

Directions

Put about an inch of the liquid soap into the empty foaming bottle.
Pour water into the bottle pretty slowly.
Screw the lid on, and turn the bottle upside down slowly several times. Try not to shake it up because it’ll get too soapy. And you’re finished!

Also, you could just keep pouring a little water into your regular Bath & Body works Foamy Soap whenever it gets a low.

*In these pictures I used a creamy hand soap, which didn’t work as well as when I used a liquid hand soap.

My brothers and I always stayed up late to watch Late Night with Conan O’Brien. We’ve always loved him. There is no one funnier than he. And luckily, the husband has good taste in comedians, too, and he prefers Conan to all the rest. I’m sure you’ve heard the latest news about Jay Leno (UGH) trying to take the Tonight Show back from Conan. But have you seen this video, where Jimmy Kimmel cracks on Leno during his interview? Love it!

Also, I’m sure you’re aware of the playoffs for the Superbowl. Well, I’ve always been a Packers fan, mostly because of Brett Favre. But now, he plays for the Vikings, so I’m cheering for them. Below is a video of him leading his team in “Pants on the Ground.”

Happy Birthday Abigail (22 Months)

Here are some of the things you’ve done this past month:

Before I put you in your crib for a nap, we sing a few songs, unless you say, “Get in bed.” Well, for the last few days, you’ve been requesting songs. Like today, I said, “Do you want to sing a song?” You said, “Yes, Blue Skies [and] Rainbows.” So we sang that. You help fill in the words when I pause. Your other requests were: “Twinkle, Twinkle,” “B-I-B-L-E,” “Book of the Bible,” “Sunshine (You are my Sunshine),” and “A B Cs.”
You can count to eight and then, you stop.
If we ask you, “What color is this?” You normally answer “Pink” to everything. But if we say, “Bring me the red (or blue or yellow or green or pink or purple) cup, you do that!
You always recognize these letters when I point to them, and you say: A, B, C, F, O, P, T, W, and you know a lot of the others, too. I’m pretty sure W is your favorite letter.
You don’t say your ABCs by yourself, but if we say A, you’ll say B, then we say C and you’ll say D on down to Z. So you know them well. (There’s a clip of this in the video below.)
Same with the books of the New Testament. It’s so cute to hear you say “Thessalonians” or Philippians” because they have so many syllables, but you pronounce them so well. (There’s a clip of this in the video below.)
In the mornings when I come to get you out of bed, I’ll say, “Is Abi awake?” You say, “Yes. Sleep sack off; humidifier off; get out of the bed.”
You’re still not so great in the eating department, but we always make sure to get you out of your high chair on a happy note. We taught you to say, “Thank you for the food. Please may I get down” (which is what my parents made me and my siblings say when we were in elementary school). When you say it, you can’t help but smile and bounce around.
You help Daddy make and eat pancakes every Saturday while Momma tries to get a few extra minutes of sleep.
Instead of saying, “You want the book/cup/toy,” etc like you used to do. Now, you say, “May I have the book, please?” I love teaching you good grammar so young!
You’re starting to do imaginative playing: you’ll “squirt” us with your water faucet from your play kitchen. You’ll let Mr Bear drink your milk. You tell me you’re cooking pancakes in the morning.

Christmas Recap

Abigail was so fun to watch this Christmas. This year, she was able to open presents by herself and say things like, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I like Santa Claus. Santa Claus says, ‘Ho, ho, ho.’ Thank you for the present.”

Abi had 6 opportunities to open presents:

On Christmas Eve, we opened one present each.

On Christmas Day, Jonathan, Abigail, and I opened presents at our house.
Then, we went over to GramB and PapaBon’s and opened presents with my siblings, their spouses, and our nephew.

On the 26th, a package came in the mail, and she opened a present.
On the 27th, while Jonathan’s parents were here, she opened some more presents from them.

On the 28th, she opened some presents from my aunt and uncle.

On the 29th, she woke up and said, “May I have more presents [to] open, please.” Umm, no, but nice try.

Other highlights:

My parents got a toy dog that Abi named “Mr. Floppy” because his ears would flop as he sang a Christmas song. At first, she was a little timid of him, but then, she started asking every two seconds to “Push Mr. Floppy’s paw” so she could dance, jump, and spin to his music.

It snowed about 7 inches early, early Christmas Eve. In fact, the snow is still on the ground at our house.

I want to thank you for being my wife. You chose me and you continue to choose me despite my many faults. I need your love and you give it to me always. Thank you.
