What to Put in Your Diaper Bag
Posted in Tipster Tuesday and tagged with Baby on 11/11/2008 12:07 pm by loriWhen I was a new mom, I didn’t know what all I needed to tote around when Abigail and I were out. Through trial and error, I have learned that the following are what you should have in your diaper bag:
For Baby
- Diapers. I take about 4. Think about taking at least one for every hour you’ll be out.
- Wipes (these can be used for sanitizing toys and cleaning up messes as well as cleaning the po-po
- An extra baby outfit. This is very important! You never know when your baby might pee/poop on himself
- Disposable Diaper Sacks
for soiled diapers of messy outfits
- Diaper rash cream
- Changing pad
- Burp cloth
- a Bib
- 2-3 Toys/Book
- Nasal aspirator
- Blanket and/or jacket even when it’s hot outside in case the place you’re going might be cold– like our church
- Baby sunblock if you’ll be outside for awhile
- Pacifier and/or bottle if your baby uses them
For Mom
- Hand sanitizer
- If you have room, maybe an extra shirt for you. Abigail likes to spit up all over me sometimes.
- Nursing pads
- Snack
- Water
- Nursing Cover
- Your business card– in case your bag gets lost
Is there anything else you would add to this list?

Wow, that’s a pretty comprehensive list! Great blog entry idea, Lori! I would add:
….a few more things for mom, but that’s because I personally don’t carry a purse in addition to my diaper bag when I know we’re going to be together (like at a restaurant). So mine also has lip gloss, chapstick, Advil/Tylenol, lotion, gum/mints, and pens. That way I don’t have to switch all these things from my purse to the diaper bag when we’re walking out the door.
….Tide to Go pen - a fabulous invention!
….kleenex
…once your baby is a little older and eating more table foods, always, always, always have a snack for the baby. It works wonders when you’re waiting somewhere or even on the way home and she or he is just fussy.
