Easy Ways to Save Money
Posted in Frugal Friday and tagged with Cheap, How to on 11/21/2008 01:00 am by loriThe slowing economy hasn’t affected us (at least not yet) because we always live really cheaply. But some people have asked me what do we do to save money. Aside from the things I’ve shared before on Frugal Friday, here are some other ways we save money:
- Jonathan comes home to eat for lunch. We figure we save at least $25 a week by him doing this. And on days when he can’t come home for lunch, he takes leftovers to work.
- I spend time online shopping (or calling around local stores) for cheaper deals– on EVERYTHING! For example, yesterday, someone recommended a book to me that they purchased for $22. It blew my mind that people will pay full retail price for said book that I found on Amazon/Ebay for $3 and $4 s&h. We also saved over $150 on car insurance per six months by switching to Geico.
- Don’t neglect coin change. Put it in a jar at the end of the day. When the jar’s getting full, deposit it. We’ve done this and gotten about $40 each time.
- Sell things you aren’t using. If you’re not into doing a garage sale, you can sell old books and other items on Amazon. We sold kitchen chairs and a digital camera on Craigslist last week. We sold baby stuff to Once Upon a Child yesterday.
- Skip “little” splurges. Do you know how much money you’d save if you’d stop buying coffee or cokes during the day? A lot, my friend.
- Find items for free on websites like Freecycle.
Any other good tips?

Lori,
I like your Frugal Friday posts.
Especially when they validate that I am, in some way, frugal myself (not going out to eat at lunch, not buying little things, saving change, etc.).

Thanks. Good for you for being frugal, too!
